What Is the E-Commerce Profit Calculator?
The E-Commerce Profit Calculator on tolkit.me is a simple but powerful tool that shows you the real profit for any product you sell online. Instead of guessing, you can plug in your product cost, selling price, shipping, payment fees, packaging, ads and other costs and instantly see:
- Total cost per sale
- Net profit per sale
- Profit margin in %
- A color-coded profitability indicator (green, yellow, red)
- A clear recommendation message
All calculations run directly in your browser with JavaScript — there is no backend and no data is stored.
Why Use an E-Commerce Profit Calculator?
In e-commerce, revenue is not the same as profit. Hidden costs like payment gateway fees, shipping, packaging and advertising can quietly destroy your margins. A product that “sells well” might actually be losing money.
This profit calculator helps you:
- ✔️ See the true cost per order, not just COGS
- ✔️ Measure net profit per sale for each product
- ✔️ Track your profit margin (%) clearly
- ✔️ Decide if a product is worth scaling with paid ads
- ✔️ Quickly test new prices, ad costs and fee structures
With a color-coded profitability indicator and recommendation message, you instantly know if a product is highly profitable, moderate or risky.
How to Use the E-Commerce Profit Calculator
The interface is split into a form on the left and results on the right, all in a clean dark layout (#151A23) with a neon accent (#2DD4BF). Results update automatically as you type.
-
1Enter your product cost (COGS):
Add the base cost of the product — what you pay your supplier or manufacturer per unit. -
2Set your selling price:
Enter the price you charge customers on your store or marketplace. -
3Add operational costs per sale:
Fill in:
• Shipping Cost
• Packaging Cost
• Advertising Cost per sale (average ad spend per order)
• Other Additional Costs (fulfilment, handling, etc.) -
4Include payment gateway fees:
Enter the fixed fee (per transaction) and the percentage fee (% of selling price) charged by your payment provider (e.g. Stripe, PayPal). -
5Review the auto-updating results:
On the right side, the calculator shows:
• Total Cost per sale
• Net Profit per Sale
• Profit Margin (%)
• A profitability indicator (green / yellow / red)
• A recommendation message based on your margin -
6Copy your results:
Use the “Copy Result” button to quickly copy key numbers and share them with your team, paste them into a sheet or save them for later.
How Profitability Is Calculated (Front-End Only)
All calculations are handled via JavaScript in your browser — there is no backend, no login and no database. Every change you make updates the results instantly.
The logic is simple and transparent:
- Total Cost = Product Cost (COGS) + Shipping + Packaging + Ads per sale + Other Costs + Payment Gateway Fees (fixed + % of price)
- Net Profit per Sale = Selling Price − Total Cost
- Profit Margin (%) = Net Profit ÷ Selling Price × 100
Then a color-coded indicator and message are generated, for example:
- Profit > 30% → Green: “Highly profitable — recommended.”
- 15–30% → Yellow: “Moderate profit — optimization suggested.”
- < 10% → Red: “Low profit — reconsider pricing or reduce costs.”
This makes it easy to test different scenarios and instantly see if a product is worth running ads for, or if you need to adjust price or costs to hit your target margin.

It depends on your niche, but many sellers aim for 30%+ profit margin for highly profitable products, 15–30% as acceptable, and under 10% as risky once you factor in ads and overhead. The calculator’s color-coded indicator helps you quickly interpret your margin.
